Question 1 of 3

Will the client want to update the website themselves?

This means logging in and making changes without having to call or email you every time. The type of changes they want to make determines the build — blog-only clients can go on a faster, more secure platform.

There's a big difference between "I want to write blog posts" and "I want to edit my homepage". Blog-only clients can go on a faster, cheaper build. Clients who want to edit core pages need full WordPress.

"Not right now but maybe later" = plan for it now. Build the right foundation from the start.

Gather the Info

Do they have an existing logo and brand identity?

Shadowtek doesn't do graphic design or logo creation. If they don't have a logo, they'll need to get one done elsewhere before the site build can start.

  • Full brand kit (logo, fonts, colours, guidelines) — ready to go
  • Logo only — no guidelines (we can work with it)
  • Nothing yet — needs a graphic designer first (not Shadowtek scope, refer out)

Where does the design start from?

Starting from scratch takes longer and costs more than building from an existing design. Knowing this upfront avoids scope surprises.

  • Starting fresh — no design, just a brief and some ideas
  • Redesign — keep the brand but modernise the look and layout
  • Have design files ready (Figma, XD, PSD) — just build it
  • Have reference sites they like — we design from those as inspiration

Is the copy (text content) written, or does it need to be created?

Shadowtek doesn't do copywriting or content creation. We can help flesh out and refine existing copy, but if they have nothing written they'll need a copywriter first.

  • All written and ready — just paste it in
  • Partially written — we can help flesh out what they have
  • Nothing written yet — needs a copywriter first (not Shadowtek scope, refer out)
  • Has an existing site to pull the copy from

What is the photography situation?

Great photos make or break a site. We can source relevant royalty-free images at no extra charge if needed, but professional photography is always better.

  • Professional photos already taken and ready
  • Happy with royalty-free images — we source these at no extra charge
  • Mix of their own photos and royalty-free images
  • Needs a professional photoshoot — refer them to a photographer (not Shadowtek scope)
